Last time we talked about making sure our appliances are Gas Safety checked especially if we purchase second hand appliances.
The second hand market is always a valid option but there are things to consider and weigh in the balance. Should we buy old or new? They say ‘time tells’ and unfortunately there is some uncertainty in buying second hand.
Here are Some Tips from Poulton Plumbing when buying old or new appliances:
- Take your time!
- Ask the right questions
- Look for minor defects that can get you a lower price on a new product
- Shop in the sales
- Read brand model reviews – yes even if it is second hand
- Is it a well-known brand that can be repaired easily?
- Post adds on sites such as Craigslist and Gumtree…you will be surprised what people are willing to part with if you can collect it
- Bargains can be had; large appliances such as fridges, gas cookers and freezers are often cast out long before they have had their shelf life. They just don’t match the decor anymore
- Second hand built in appliances are often not worth the hassle
The choice is yours but if you find your head still in a spin then call Poulton Plumbing for expert advice, installation and safety services.
